Planning Checklist
1. Choose a Date
- Choosing the proper date can make or break a tournament.
The date of your tournament is very important because
you want to make it easy for all invited guests to attend.
Choosing a date just prior to or after a holiday may
prevent some guests from attending. Carefully consider
your audience and event before choosing the date. After
you have selected the date, start calling your local
golf professionals to see who has time available.
2. Golf Course
Location - Choosing
a golf course location is very important. Choose a golf
course that suits the audience you are entertaining,
if they are average golfers choose a golf course that
is forgiving and not to difficult, otherwise your in
for a really long day. If your clientele is a more sophisticated
crowd that typically play at private golf courses you
may want to choose a more upscale facility and course.
Call well in advance as golf courses fill their available
tournament dates rather quickly.
3. Decide The
Format - Decide the
golf tournament format. E.G. Medal/stroke play, best
ball, net best ball or a scramble
4. Write Golf
Invitations –
Remember to write the invitations with the players in
mind. Create some excitement with a good invitation
and be clear and concise. Things to include on invitation:
Name of tournament ( 5th annual etc.), date and location,
format, great prize table, specialty prizes for long
drive, closest to the pin, straightest drive, most honest
golfer etc,
5. Write Sponsorship
Letter – Can
be mailed, emailed, golf tournament website.
6. Mail or Email
Invitations - After
you have written your invitations for the players and
invited guests mail or email the invitations well in
advance and make sure to include an RSVP deadline. Make
sure you include a field for your guests email address,
this will allow you to more efficient in future events
and make the process easier for your invited guests.
7. Determine Prizes
– Grab bag, logo gift, budget per head, specialty
prizes
